Environmental Contribution
Yuvak Biradari
has made a substantial contribution towards environmental
conservation. It has endeavored to provide the
youth an opportunity to appreciate and value the
joys of constructive physical labour. The emphasis
is on developing an attitude wherein social work
is treated not as charity, but as an inherent
part of our culture and upbringing. In this context,
to bolster the equilibrium in the environment,
Yuvak Biradari undertakes Vriksha Sneha and Vasundhara
Bachao Andolan (Save the Earth movement), and
spreads awareness about the dangers of environmental
pollution and undue exploitation.
-
Through tree plantation campaigns during
1982-2006, Biradars have planted more than
100,000 tree saplings of which approximately
60% are still flourishing at the Film City
(Aarey Coloney, Mumbai), Ellora Caves (Aurangabad),
Panhala, Sevagram, and North Guwahati.
-
Through our Save Water and Cleanliness Drives
(Jal Bachao aur Swachchata Abhiyaan) in 2002-2006
many groups of Biradars went door-to-door
in more than 150 villages and small towns
of Maharashtra to bring about awareness on
these issues.
National Inter-collegiate Green Venture Competition
Environmental degradation caused by mankind is a fundamental threat to all
living things. Youth who dream and dare can play a constructive role in sustainable development.
As an initiative in this direction, Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) with Shri Vileparle Kelavani Mandal has been
organizing ‘Vasundhara Bachao’ – National inter-collegiate Green Venture Competition’ in Mumbai.
Earth-friendly concepts/practices/businesses developed by youth can go a long way in developing a
community of responsible and happy citizens. Therefore Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) invited students to
write a proposal for starting a social venture/business venture to address any environmental (ecological)
issue they identified.

Topics were to relate to air, solid and liquid waste treatment and management,
water management, recycling, reuse, environment management systems, greening of supply chain, green marketing,
developing a green product or service etc. In 2007 the competition was conducted in association with
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management and in 2008 it was put up in association with National Institute of
Industrial Engineering (NITIE). The objective of this competition was to channelise the thought process of
budding managers which will eventually lead to the subject of ‘environmental sustainability’ occupying centre
stage in board rooms and drawing rooms. A large number of student teams from premier institutes across India
participated and the best teams won cash prizes.
